I have a flea problem, and I also have a Dyson. I’m vaccuuming and treating my home like crazy, and…?
emptying the Dyson after every sweep over my apartment carpet, upholstery, rugs, and mattress. The only problem I have seen is that most research I have done has said that after vaccuuming, throw out the vaccuum bag immediately (and seal it in a plastic bag first) but the Dyson doesnt have bags. So I sprinkled a little borax on the carpet and vaccuumed again, to kill any fleas that I sucked up in the canister, and then dumped the canister out immediately afterwards in the garbage across the street. Has anyone else with a Dyson had a flea problem? How did you get rid of it? Am I doing the right thing? Please let me know. Thank you!

BORAX, OR SODIUM TETRABORATE, – is a combination of sodium, boron and oxygen, and is mined from the soil in its crude form.
Boric acid is a crystalline material derived from borax. Caution: Remember, boric acid and all boron products can act as a stomach poison when ingested.
While 20 Mule Team Borax® is extremely effective in controlling or eliminating ants, termites, weeds, lice, fleas, spiders and roaches, the Dial Corporation notes, “This product has not been tested nor received approval from the EPA for use as a 27 pesticide.”
Even so if you mop or spray the floors, voids, sill boxes, tunnels, backs of furniture, appliances and other areas where you see insect pests with borax – you will be surprised on how great the material controls virtually all pests.
It has been used for years to make cellulose insulation insect free and fire retardant.
It also is great for removing stains in carpeting and/or odors in urinals, etc. – so mop to remove odors and to help clean – in doing so you will also control pests “accidentally”.

This works!!!! In fact you won’t have this problem again for along time, even a couple of years.
Put down some flea powder for a few minutes, or a few hours, and then vacuum. The powder will be in the vacuum, so that anything you vacuum up should die. Also it can’t jump out before you empty the cup. By vacuuming it into the cup you also have some residue inside of the vacuum to kill them as they are sucked in. You might also think about treating your yard as that’s probably where they are coming from. A non-toxic trick is to put a pan of water down and prop a light over it. Put a drop of dish soap in the water and turn on the light. The fleas will jump for the light at night and fall into the water and drown. The soap breaks the surface tension on the water so the fleas can’t land on it.
You might get the live fleas but you are not getting the flea eggs. A Chemical treatment is needed.
With regards the hovering take the material from the Dyson, double plastic bag it and place in the deep freeze for a few hours, the cold will kill the fleas, instead of infesting your rubbish container.
You must give some thought to how the original infestation occured, any old feather or horse hair stuffing mattresses or furniture in the house?
If you have, you either will have to get professional exterminators in or burn the items.
You need a professional exterminator. I didn’t even have carpet in my house and the whole place was infested. It was disgusting. You’d walk in and the fleas would just jump right up on you.
The man who came to exterminate wore a white one piece foot to neck suit. It was covered when he came out.
He had to come back twice!
Prior to his visit, I had tried bombing the place twice and cleaned the floors repeatedly.
All of this from rescuing an alley cat and her 4 babies.
