I need a recommendation for a vacuum cleaner for high pile carpet?

I have a big house, with lots of white, shag carpeting. My sears canister cannot handle it, nor can my dyson. They are so hard to push along, and make loud noises like they are ready to break down. Does anyone know of an affordable, effective machine for shag carpet? Attachments for stairs would be of great help too. Thank you!!

You need something with a height adjustment. You may also need to not use a brush at all. The best machines for very tall carpet are the Sanitaire professional uprights. They have no tools, but they have one of the highest carpet adjustments you can find. They also clean carpet very well. For a carpet only machine this should do the trick. The S634 should also fit into your budget.
Try a Kirby vacuum, they have great height adjustment, don’t buy new, look for a good used one, check out E bay….I own two G7 Kirby’s and they are great….be sure to get one with the tech drive they are very easy to push back and forth, takes about four pounds of pressure with the tech drive…good luck!
We use a winsor sensor 12xp. We have a shag area rug and hardwood floors as well as princess cut berber. The winsor has an automatic height adjustment for the beater bar. It can go from shag to wood floor with out having to guess where to adjust the beater bar. It is quiet for a vacuum of its size. It has tools built in. Edge and upholstery/stair attachment. It lays flat to vacuum under beds. It is a low end commercial vacuum. It has been used by us for over 5 years every day and the only thing we needed to replace is the bags and finally the electric cord. It got sucked into the beater bar. Other wise it will be the last vacuum you will ever have. Oh it is also 99% dust free.
