My old vacuum cleaner is slowing breaking down. I’ve been looking around at new vacuum cleaners and everyone talks about how good the Dyson vacuum is. Is it worth it?

Not really. I’ve decided I hate bag-less vacuums and will never buy another. I loved my Rainbow (broken) vacuum and will get one of those or one with a bag.
Oh gosh — my sister has one, and I ask to borrow it whenever I can. I have a really good vacuum, too, but her Dyson has stuff I really like — for example, the hose and attachments are right there and you don’t have to stop vacuuming to hook anything up if you want to clean the baseboards or edges of furniture. Also, it really does move easily and can get under and around stuff than my vacuum can’t.
One idea, though, to save you some money — my sister got hers almost brand new off of Craigslist for less than half of what the new one would be, and the warranty papers and all of that stuff was there just in case. She hasn’t had any problems though.
I have a Dyson Animal. I just bought it 3 months ago. I have two very hairy dogs and it does wonders on the carpet! When I got it I vacuumed the carpet with the old vacuum and then I did it again right away with the Dyson and you wouldn’t believe how much stuff that dyson picked up. I love love love it. Best investment ever for me.
I like my Dyson but you should be aware of several things before you buy it. It is terrific on carpets but lousy on bare floors. The attachments fall off easily and its a real pain to use them with that retractable wand. Also, be sure and look for any small object that might get sucked into the brushes because the belt that runs them is very skinny and easy to break and impossible for you to repair without taking to a repair shop. I know because I’ve had mine in twice already – once when it caught the edge of an afghan and another time when a small cinder from my fireplace got into the brushes.
Still, it cleans a carpet like nothing else I’ve ever used.
